Day 2. Good Friends, Good Olive Oil & Good Tidings
HOME– Our friends, Kasey and Aaron, walked over last night to share their good news. They’re engaged! It all happened this past week on a lovely moonlit night in Seville, Spain, just beneath the amber washed walls of the ancient Cathedral of Seville.
And in Seville, of all places- the city is so stunningly gorgeous– so alive and so fragrant. I close my eyes and see the slow processional of Santa Semana walking by. I smell the orange blossoms, the olive oil, the jasmine and… caper berries, and, of course….the yellow smoke of Spanish cigarettes tumbling through the air, out of a tapas bar.
Listening to their engagement story, and then later, to Rich recounting our wedding weekend, sweet memories shoot around my head like sky rockets. There is nothing on this Earth as bewitching as the feeling of falling in love.
They also brought us a tall bottle of good tidings– an elegant vessel of golden, olive-perfumed, pressed Spanish oil.
Before the night was over, I made some of my “award winning bread” – yes, ~ahem~ I won a second place ribbon at our State Fair for my Sally Lunn bread. I cut off a thick slice and filled a small bowl with a slow pour of extra virgin olive oil. A chunk of warm baked bread dipped into a fine vintage of extra virgin olive oil is one of life’s finest pleasures.
Are you married to someone you love more than life itself? Then you know this taste in your head and your heart- it tastes like true, forever new, heady love.

My sister and (now husband) got engaged in Italy. The best part was they brought us back the BEST bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The real deal from Italy. True love, indeed.

Congrats to the couple! I’m lucky enough to be married to someone who I love more than life, so I bet I know just how they feel.

Congrats on your bread and to the couple. I’m still hoping for that lucky guy to come into my life who would love me more than life. Love the bread though.
