Day 8. Princess Cake in the Queen’s City

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA– Mom and I were out shopping this weekend, on our traditional pre-Christmas shopping spree. Yeah, we are not taking any prisoners this year. We started early; we started in Ikea.

Ikea is so much fun. Everyone is happy. The music is bubbly and Scandinavian chic, prices are oddly fair, style is hip, materials are expendable, and after five and a half hours, (our record) we are invincible! And so, we stop for a snack.

We need a quick nosh of Swedish meatballs, Lingonberry juice and dessert. On a lark, we go with the odd green disc called a “Princess Cake.”

It is fantastic. FAN. TASTIC. Now, beware that the almond cake you see in my secret spy iPhone photo is bland, gummy and not worth finishing, but the Princess Cake- oh the Princess Cake is light, airy and cool on your tongue, like soft ice cream swirled around raspberries and coated in a neon green fondant that would make Shrek proud.

Continuing on, we fill our carts with presents for ourselves and leave the store like the jolly green Grinch, stealing Christmas from all of our would-be gift-receivers. What better way to ring in the holiday season.

I love ikea. I like to walk aimlessly and have myself some meatballs or one of those giant cinnamon rolls.

I love Ikea so much that I don’t go there…for fear I’ll never leave.

Ikea is a very unique shop. In the one near me they have routes painted out on the floor which your supposed to follow and there are so many little door ways you can use (but aren’t supposed to) to get to places faster. They have a great selection though and stuff is cheap.
