Day 9. Shrimping Season 2009
BEAUFORT, SOUTH CAROLINA– My freezer has been taken hostage by shrimp. Rich, Dad and my brother, Tray, caught more shrimp this season than any other since they began their sporting trio back in 1999. We are looking forward to a long and delicious winter of shrimp dishes.
Tonight we’re having shallot risotto with black pepper shrimp. Soon, I will feel very much like Bubba from the movie Forest Gump:
“Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it.” - Bubba Gump
Here are a few more pictures from Beaufort and the 2009 Shrimp Season that will go down in our family’s verbal history of tall shrimp tales.

Oh lordy, do I love shrimp. It is the reason that I could not go full bore vegetarian all those years I gave up meat. (And bacon is pretty much the reason I started eating meat again.) Shrimp wrapped bacon. Yum.
Lovely photos.

Wow. You’ve got yourself a nice supply of shrimp there. lol. The endless recipes you can make with them. Yum! I’m imagining that scene in my head when Bubba names all the shrimp dishes he can think of.

Oh wow, that’s a lot of shrimps. Can we be neighbors? That scene from Forrest Gump is just hilarious. And such gorgeous scenery.

That is a SERIOUS shrimp supply! Rich & company have been busy this season. Looks like you have no room for anything else in that freezer.
