Day 26. Thanksgiving is for Sharing this Carrot & Leek Tart

HOME– Happy Thanksgiving!!

I have fifteen minutes to make my deadline. I do have to say, NaBloMo, NaBloPoMo or whatever this thing is called that has me up every night until midnight, has definitely increased my typing prowess. I am sounding like a stenographer tonight. Nah, that’s probably someone who takes shorthand. Okay, a typist. A very fast typist. But, one who is making many typos. So a fast, but not so great typist. Ta da!

Anyway, back to the urgent present. With the help of a fellow food blogger, Greg {GREG} of Sippity Sup fame, not only and I’m going to make my little deadline tonight but, I’m going to bake it forward by sharing my favorite part of my Thanksgiving meal this year. Every year, I slip in a new dish or two alongside our traditional Thanksgiving Day spread.

Do you? What did you add to the mix this year?

I added this rustic Italian tart– GREG’s adapted recipe for a slender, graceful, smokey, herbal, savory carrot and leek tart. Actually, it’s only rustic in taste, its execution and presentation give an air of perfectionism.

You might say it’s an edible work of art, and with 66 perfectly circular carrots, 66 softly cooked orange wafers, 66 little melt-in-your-mouth discs lined up by hand, it is indeed an attempt at perfection.

Is this tart calling your name, yet? Because it just jumped off the page and into my arms when I first saw it. I love carrots and leeks and I’m always looking for a new tart recipe- savory or sweet.

If so, for the sake of the people you love most in this world, do not wait until next Thanksgiving to try this recipe.

It is a jewel of a tart. One slip of your fork into this tender savory pastry and onto your tongue and you’ll understand why. There is something particularly subtle and smokey in the flavor. It’s like nothing I’ve ever tried before. Is it the marjoram, the almonds in the pastry crust, the thyme, the leeks combined with the carrot puree? I can’t figure it out.

I just finished off one small square that I had saved for myself from last night. It was still love at last bite.

Okay, onto the recipe! Let me send you here tonight before my clock strikes midnight and I turn into a pumpkin pie.
