Kim,
We’ve missed you!
And I have a question . . . Where did you get your fabulous chalk boards?
I have convinced myself that I can be truly organized and creative . . . if only I had the right tools . . .

@Nancy ZS, I apologize for the delayed response on this, but we made the chalkboards. Years ago, I actually had a flash vision of them and wouldn’t stop talking about them until Rich reluctantly went with me to get the supplies at our local DIY lumber warehouse. It’s one sheet of MDF that he cut in two. These are heavy! Because of their weight, they lean against the wall without much risk of falling. The frame is a simple piece or two of thin trim, corner-cut like a frame. It took me about a week to sand, re-sand, paint, and repaint the boards. But, my patience paid off because they work well with the chalk and are relatively easy to clean and re-use.
We have two smaller chalkboards (1′ x 4′) in our kitchen, made of a rougher, thinner ply-board. I didn’t sand these too death or paint multiple coats so they don’t handle the chalk nearly as well. In the past, I’ve painted the inside of an old two-paneled pantry door with chalk paint. Because the door was smooth to begin with, writing on it was easy.
And on another note, if I hadn’t had these chalkboards when I moved into this house, I believe I would’ve painted one of my kitchen walls in the black paint. You see, I can never have enough large, bold writing in my face, reminding me what it is that I need to do or buy or believe or think about.
